Another Great Day – Blankets Creek

October 20, 2008 4:40 am

It is not very often that you get to have a weekend this great. The weather was absolutely perfect for riding, so after yesterdays mountain excursion…it was time for some local fun with the “family”. Jenn is getting better by the week at riding, and this is very exciting to watch. Part of the fun of riding is sharing that experience with others, and who better than the most important woman in my life.

We headed up to the trailhead with sunny and 70 weather and the kid in the car. She was a little upset that she had to wait for mom and dad to ride before she could get out and run.

She waited patiently and Jenn and I headed out for a ride. Shortly before I packed up the gear, I swapped out the cheap Answer rear shock that was stock on her bike for a new Fox RP23. It seemed to really help with her riding with the increased damping and compression control. The Answer was very “spongy” and cheap feeling. The RP23 is able to tune better to her needs.

Watching riders get substantially better is a great joy of mine in riding. You can compare these pictures to her first ride out and see the difference. I am waiting for the day that she tells me to catch up on a climb.

I was having my own fun on the new DJ/FR hardtail that Mountain Cycle sent in. This thing is a blast to ride and I can’t wait to get it out to our BMX/Pump track and downtown for some urban assault riding.

After our excursion through the woods…it was time to go pick up the kid and have a different kind of fun. Sometimes I forget how great it really is to just get out with the dog and enjoy the outdoors. Most of the time I am just looking for more lines/singletrack/dh’s to rip up as fast I as can. Did you know there are actually trees and animals beside the trail?

Hemi was wearing a different face now that she was out of the truck.

At Blankets Creek, they have a new sign built that really gets the blood pumping. Great job by the SORBA Woodstock crew for getting this thing together.

There are a ton of riding hot spots on the sign…but my eyes always rest at one specific spot…

One day…hopefully next year…I’ll be at the promised land.

Thank you guys for taking a ride along my weekend with me. There is not much you can ask for. I rode some great single track on Saturday with a great group of riding friends.

And on Sunday, I got to spend time with my “daughter”…

And my beautiful wife…

I really hope that you guys had as great of a weekend as I did, and here is to many more…

I don’t know how people stay inside all the time!

  • Blanket’s Creek is a hidden jewel that we are lucky to have so close to home. I got back into MTB about two months ago after basically ignoring it for a year. I am nowhere near the level most of the riders are that I see out there but they don’t care and have always been very friendly and welcoming to me and willing to help (busted a tire and did not have the tools to fix it a few weeks ago and got plenty of help). I took a shot at Area 51 this past Sunday and it fought back just as hard. I am not ready for that trail but enjoyed the scenary and the challenge it brought with it. My legs are still tired today. For now, I will stick to Dwelling. I am always trying to find out more about Blanket’s Creek and am glad I came across your web site. Supposedly, there are some old mines near the trails which they used to pull gold out of back in the 1800′s. I haven’t seen any yet but it is so tough to take in the surroundings when you are riding.

  • Great pics Robb. I think that trail is awesome. My sister and her family lives in a neighborhood that backs up to the trail system so it makes driving from NC for a visit an easy choice.
