GoPro Hero 5mp Wide Angle Cameras

December 6, 2008 2:44 pm

I have been looking for ways to increase functionality and usefulness of the site, and I concluded that video would be the best way to bring more interesting content to you guys. The idea is to have video footage of all of the product reviews and incorporate it into as many of the riding and maintenance tips as we can.

After I decided this was the route that MTB by 198 was going to take, I went looking for an efficient way to capture this footage. I have known about the GoPro Hero’s for awhile now, and with the release of their new 5mp wide angle cameras…this was perfect timing. A call to the guys at GoPro and shortly after there are two GoPro Hero 5mp wide angle cameras at my doorstep.

The GoPro Hero digital camera records video onto a 2 gig SD card that slides right into the camera body. This self contained unit does not require any wiring…so mounting in obscure locations is done with ease. There are several different mounts included in the kit, and I have a chest mount that is in the works. As you can see from the video footage below…it records remarkable shots for such a small package.

From this point forward, you are going to see the review product in action on the trail. New suspension designs, suspension forks, tires…you name it…it is going to be caught on video!

The First Ride With The GoPro Hero Cameras

For the first ride out, I went to a local trail and played around on the easy loop for awhile to really get a chance to mess with the cameras. I mounted one camera to the frame and the other to my helmet. The helmet mount was barely noticeable while riding. It was dreary and cold on this Georgia Saturday morning, but the cameras did a good job of capturing the couple of miles of riding. Enjoy watching the Rock Shox Lyrik in action!
