I Miss My Bike

June 13, 2008 12:10 pm

I wrote a post recently on what cycling was to me. This week, I am once again reminded what happens when I miss out on my weekly ride routine that gives me all of the benefits that I mentioned in that post. The job that pays the bills had me out on the road from Monday until today. Traveling through Florida and getting into hotels late at night makes bringing the bike not an option. (When I travel through North Carolina, I am able to hit some perfect Pisgah single track.)

I have come to realize how much I really rely on riding during the week to keep my overall moral up. “The other half” will be the first to tell you when I haven’t gotten enough saddle time in that week.

  • I don’t sleep as well.
  • I seem to be shorter with people than normal.
  • I eat worse.
  • And apparently I am grumpy.

Right now, there is a lot going on in my life that has taken away a little bit of riding for the greater good of the future. While all of this is new and exciting, I really need to remember to set time aside to get what I need in order to stay healthy. Hopefully, when these things get off and running, traveling like this will be a thing of the past and I won’t have to title a post “I Miss My Bike.”

  • I hear you man, it has been crazy for me this week as well, I did get in at least 1 short ride last monday. I was testing out my new steel rigid fork from Rody at Groovy cycles. The forks gets an A+ by the way. Hang in there, and get out on that Ventana….you will be right back on track

  • @jason: Rody makes a great fork. I bet that thing is ultra precise turning.

  • I’m with ya there bro, I miss my bike too, keep up the cadence it will come right!

  • @ta: You’ll be back on yours before you know it. There better be some pictures to prove it! Maybe even a Maxxis shot or two.
