Prologo Vertigo Max MTB Saddle – In for Review

May 18, 2009 8:16 am

Prologo sent us over one of their new Vertigo Max mountain bike saddles for review. This is one of many saddles that Prologo offers for the cycling community. Prologo is best known for providing professional bike saddles to some of the road riding elite. Their professional road team resume consists of teams like Saxo Bank, ag2r Prevoyance, Katiowa, Fuji and Scott. Their appearance into the mountain biking segment of cycling has largely gone unnoticed (at least on this side of the pond) with companies like WTB, Selle Italia and others all competing for your ass. This Vertigo Max MTB saddle from Prologo looks to try to cut into the market and provide the mountain biking community with a high end, professional saddle with the quality that Prologo is known for.

Prologo Vertigo Max

Specifically designed for Trail. High profile nose allows a perfect control in downhill with real nose turn control. Full and consistent Light Foam padding. Wide round seating design. Microfiber and Protex cover. Carbon injected base and Ti 1.4 or T 2.0 rail complete Vertigo MAX’s setup.

  • The actual weight on the Prologo Vertigo Max came in right at 260g with an Ultimate Digital Alpine Scale.
  • MSRP is right around 159.99 from what I could find around the web.
  • The patented U-Cup on the end of the saddle allows for quick and easy attachment of u-cup compatible saddle bags.

Initial Thoughts on the Prologo Vertigo Max

The Prologo Vertigo Max is constructed out of high quality materials and its weight (with the Ti 1.4 rails) is incredibly competitive with other similar sized saddles on the market. The first thing I noticed with the Vertigo Max was that the chassis is extremely stiff. You will not get any mid saddle sagging or collapsing while riding. The padding is consistent and soft without being too much like a couch and the shape seems to fit my rear end nicely. Saddles are one of those bike components that is largely personal preference on fit and feel, so I will try to portray the review on how it relates to my posterior and let you draw your own conclusions on if it will work well for you.

The overall look of the saddle from Prologo works for most of the rides in my stable as it is classy but doesn’t completely stand out like a sore thumb. All of that said…there was one issue during initial installation. The design of the rails make it so that I had to completely take a part the mount for the Thomson seatpost to install the saddle. Other brands like WTB, design the shape of their rails farther apart at the top allowing a slip over once the plates are loosened. On the Prologo, those rails are spaced closer together at the top preventing this sort of easier installation to take place. Once installed, the saddle was perfectly aligned and there was zero noise/flex between the Vertigo Max and the Thomson post.
