Re…Remember When…We Used To Ride Bikes. That Was Awesome!
I don’t know about you guys…but the weather in the southeast United States has been nothing but wet for months! We actually were in a drought so bad that one of our lakes was predicted to be under normal level for the next 10 years. Over the course of one weekend, it got to full pool and half of Atlanta was flooded. In the weeks proceeding, we have had nothing but gray skys and that mysterious water falling from the sky that makes my male Boxer Hans think he is melting.
Unfortunately for mountain bikers in this area, our trails are nothing but red clay, so…unlike other parts of the world…we are unable to ride wet trails. If you get out in this soup, you end up reversing the affects of hours of trail maintenance. The result…we are looking out our windows at the rain, eating bad foot and getting out of shape and fat.
Last night, a group of us that normally have a weekly ride got together to get some food because we hadn’t seen each other in awhile (it reminds you how much cycling really brings people together). A friend of mine at the table started making the joke…”re..remember when…we used to ride bikes! That was awesome!”…imitating The Chris Farley Show on SNL. Needless to say…we found it hilarious and true.
Since we are running through a wet spell in this area…I am going to start getting into more off-season training methods (details to come soon) that mountain bikers can do while sitting on your ass during the times of the year when you do not get in as much saddle time. Just because we are not riding…it does not mean we shouldn’t be preparing for those glorious days of sunshine and singletrack.
In the meantime…enjoy this clip of The Chris Farley Show…

I was so glad to get out this morning and actually NEED sunglasses! Hopefully the dreary weather is gone for a while.
I couldnt agree more, so damn sick of this rain… I guess I could have worst things to complain about but jeez would be nice to get a good ride in.
Chris Farley…so funny!
Nice. Yeah, those were good times. I rode once this week during a dry spell. Red clay was in full effect. Even the rocks have been getting washed away. I knew there would be punishment for riding so much last month. Alternative training definitely going to be necessary…
So if Rob gets fat does he just start to look like an snake after dinner (instead of a bean pole)?

LOL! I am going to actually use that gym membership I have been paying for!
Got out and put in some miles over the weekend…even saw the sun a little bit. Really felt good to get out.
He was a genius for sure.
We complained when we didn't have it to! Looks like their is no middle ground for precipitation in my area anymore…all or nothing!
Sun came out for about 16 seconds over this past weekend during a ride at Blankets. It was crazy…I was blind!
Wow, it must be really bad down there if y'all are eating bad foot to survive.
Good foot is one thing but bad foot is another thing entirely…
It has been a string of bad weather for sure…
