Video Proof: It Is Not The Equipment, It’s The Rider

We spend a lot of time talking about bikes, equipment and how it will allow us to experience a different kind of riding on new terrain. While there is a lot of truth to the subject, pure bike handling skill will trump equipment any day of the week. To prove that BikeRadar.com posted a video yesterday of some amazing stunts done on a carbon road bike.

Granted…it is Martyn Ashton…but you get the idea. It’s a great reminder that it is not always about what you are riding, but how you are riding it. Enjoy the video and the weekend out on the trail.

It’s not every day that you see a carbon road bike being used as a stunt machine — hopping over boulders at the beach and styling it up at the skate park.
British trials legend Martyn Ashton does just that and more in his latest video, The BikeRadar Roadie.
The clip sees Mountain Biking Hall of Fame member Ashton hit the tarmac on his carbon Raleigh Avanti Team on his way to the UK’s premier bike festival, BikeRadar Live — which takes place on 10-11 July.

More information is getting out on the new mountain biking video from Anthill Films titled “Follow Me”. From the same crew that brought us Roam and Seasons, Follow Me is going to be another bit of video that is going to make us ride well above our ability thanks to the stoke of riders like Thomas Vanderham, Sam Hill and others. By the looks of this official trailer, this film is going to even top the last two outings by this group of video loving riders. Check out the trailer and stay tuned for the release in May of this year. Should be an incredible video to get the season started off right.

Teaser: Follow Me from Anthill Films

The guys that were behind Roam and Seasons are at it again. Now under the name Anthill Films, these videographers are going to make our jaws drop and infuse our minds with the want to ride bigger than our ability with “Follow Me”.

Anthill Films is bringing back some of the best in downhill, freeride, dirt jump and slalom to put together a movie that is going to be sick. The video below is a short teaser to show us eager watchers what we can expect out of “Follow Me”. The riders and the videographers keep getting better, so this should be a great film in the end. Scheduled to be out this spring.

Video: Ray’s MTB Indoor Park

A friend of mine Mark just got back from Ray’s MTB Indoor Park and brought back some helmet cam footage to share. Ray’s is an indoor mountain bike park (if you couldn’t already tell by the name) that has everything from pump tracks to drops and ladders. There is something for every mountain biker, regardless of skill level.

In this video, Mark takes a spin around the XC course, jump and berm run, a skinny and the Rhythm Room.

A group of us headed up to Chattanooga, TN last weekend to get in some dry singletrack…finally! It has been doing nothing but raining in the southeast United States lately, so we grab any mountain biking time we can get. As you can see by the video, last weekend was what inspired the “How to ride in leaf covered conditions” article I posted earlier this week. You could hardly even see the trail! This added a little bit of tech into the ride but it also flattened out the terrain in the video even more than video footage normally does.

The Chunky trail at Raccoon Mountain is a light FR area with moderate rock drops and some slow tech bouldering. Great area to build up your more technical riding skills.

The following video was shot with the VholdR ContourHD mounted on my head on the Niner W.F.O. 9 review bike.

The Funniest MTB Related Video I Have Ever Seen

In north Georgia right now, we are completely underwater. If feels like it has been doing nothing but raining for the past month non stop and we even made headlines with massive flooding several weeks ago that will make history books. When you match all of this water that is falling from the sky with gorgeous red clay, it equals very minimal ride time for us mountain bikers in the area as riding wet trails completely ruins the trail system.

So…what do us mountain bikers do to fulfill our fat tired obsessions? A friend of mine, Al, is known for many things online. His various bacon exploits (first of us to actually cook and eat the Bacon Explosion) are well documented and he is known for tearing up Photoshop for the purposes of humor against other mountain bikers on the local forum. If you ever had the question, “what does a mountain biker with a little free time, some creativity and couple of beers do when off the bike for an extended period of time do?” This video is your answer.

Quite possibly the funniest mountain biking related video I have ever seen, Al portrays our frustration with all things saturated in this several minute clip. While there are a couple of inside jokes and puns at local guys, almost every mountain biker in the world should be able to relate by plugging in the name of their trails and riders. For that reason, this video…as of this morning…already has over 11,000 views on YouTube.

This is the original…so beware of imitators!

Video: Bent Creek in Asheville, NC – Green’s Lick and Ingles Field Gap DH

This HD mountain bike video footage is from Bent Creek in Asheville, NC. Green’s Lick is known for being an extremely fast, groomed bob sled run that heads down the north boundary of the hill. A simple YouTube search for Green’s Lick will show you plenty of eager mountain bikers getting their speed way over their head in an attempt to show off for the camera. The result is an OTB moment that is great for YouTube viewing. Luckily for me, I had a clean run down the entire trail and caught some great footage with my VholdR ContourHD.

From Green’s Lick, I took Side Hill back up to 5 Points to capture the Ingles Field Gap DH that you climb to get to Green’s Lick. It is a great singletrack DH that seems to go for forever.

Every time I visit Bent Creek, I get irritated with the locals because this is their “local trail”. When they want to get together for a regular Tuesday night ride after work, Bent Creek is where they head to fulfill their singletrack obsession and Pisgah National Forest serves as their weekend playground. Lucky bastards.

Anyways…I finally got around to editing this footage that I shot a couple of months ago…so enjoy.

Video was shot with a VholdR ContourHD mounted on the top of my helmet. Sled of choice was the Turner 5.Spot with a Lyrik coil doing the duties up front.

New Danny MacAskill Trials Mountain Biking Video

Danny MacAskill, a once “unknown” trials phenom is at it again with an incredible display of bike control and tricks in his new trials mountain biking video. I say unknown because up until this last video of Danny that we posted, no one knew who the hell Danny Mac was or that he even rode a bike! He was just hanging out working in a local bike shop like any other rider. Now…thanks to YouTube and his mad skills as a trials rider…Danny is a household name among mountain biking enthusiasts worldwide.

In this vid…Danny is all suited up for his regular daily commute. Don’t we all wish we could make our daily commute look this good.

This was seriously too cool not to share. I am a sucker for massive mountain bike video stoke, so of course…this got my mind stirring. They are seriously floating around on a barge taking shots at different San Francisco landmarks. Seriously cool…

While filming for New World Disorder 10, the Red Bull Stumps Clump and Jumps tour riders descended on San Francisco and set up this one-of-a-kind barge in San Francisco Bay. Once aboard, the Lacondeguy brothers, Robbie Bourdon, Paul Basagoitia and Wayne Goss sessioned the floating dirt jumps. The event even made Sports Center’s top plays on Sunday night. Mountain Biking Photography – Amazing Riding Pictures

Mountain biking photography is a huge passion of mine (although I need to work on taking better pictures myself!). I can spend hours looking through other riders photographs as they share their little piece of singletrack heaven with others. Some photographers have found a way to make it a true art form as they continue to push the limits of their riding and their photography.
