Video: Levi Leipheimer On A Mountain Bike
Apparently, Lance Armtrong is not the only one that jumps on a fat tire rig and blasts through the woods for some cross training. In this video, Levi Leipheimer is ripping up some California singletrack in the off season. For a roadie…he really has some trail riding skills as you can see with some small root drops and switchbacks. The speed he is carrying through the woods is pretty impressive as well.
Someone does need to tell Levi that all of those technical sections would be a hell of a lot easier with the seat down…

He definitely is fast!
Like most roadies I’ve ridden singletrack with – mostly during XC races – he doesn’t hit the technical stuff with as much speed as say a full-time MTB’r would. That said, for a roadie, Levi is hitting the tech pretty fast!
While racing the 24 Hours of 9 Mile in July last year, it was like clockwork: I would get passed by roadies on the long firewood climbs but as soon as we hit the singletrack and the technical rocky sections, I would pass right by them again. Back and forth, back and forth. Had my conditioning been better, I probably would have fared better in that race…
Sweet video; it has me licking my chops while watching the snow fall here in Iowa.

Anyone know for sure what trail he’s riding? It looks pretty awesome. I think he lives up in the Napa / Sonoma area.

Looks a lot like Annadel State Park in Santa Rosa (his home town) – but don’t take my word for it.

I don’t think that is Annadel, too big/steep and too damp, note the redwoods and ferns Must be closer to the coast.

Until breaking his wrist in the 2009 TDF Levi was going to be Lance’s riding partner in the Leadville 100 – in various interviews I read prior to the event Lance had stated that he thought he’d be able to win it but that he’d need someone to work with out at the front and with Levi not able to compete that might put a spanner in things – though we now know that it didn’t.
After Lance’s win Levi was revving him for next years event when he’d be back on board
